Look before you talk to anybody.

Before you start a stream, check these

• Storage before supply. Every operator who fails runs out of room before they run out of material.
• Your state's rules for that stream. Refrigerant handling, scrap dealer registration, resale certificates and medical equipment reconditioning are all state-level.
• Insurance that covers other people's property in your possession. General liability alone usually does not.
• What data handling you can honestly document. It decides whether you get corporate accounts or household castoffs.
• The hours, not just the load. Deconstruction and sorting streams are paid in labour, and the margin disappears if you price them like hauling.
